Spotted Lanternfly
Spotted Lanternfly is an invasive insect native to Asia. Since being discovered in Pennsylvania in 2014, its population has exploded in the eastern US and is spreading west. Currently, there are a handful of known occurrences in SE Michigan, but that number is rising. SLF’s preferred host species is the invasive Tree-of-heaven, but it also feeds on species such as red and silver maple, black walnut, grapes, apple trees, hops, and several others. It can damage several specialty crops as it sucks sap from its host.
